About Edward J. Mathews, SR. Plumbing and Heating

Ed Mathews Plumbing and Heating was started over seventy years ago by Ed Mathews. He was one of the first gasfitters in the Boston area with license number 156. As an old school tradesman he did residential work.

The business is now run by his son, also Ed Mathews, who graduated from Northeastern University as an Mechanical Engineer and joined forces with his father and brought the business to new levels which included commercial plumbing and heating.

Installations included such clients as Harvard Medical (laboratory plumbing), United States Postal Service (heating systems and bathrooms), Spaulding and Sly (commercial property managers), Boston Housing Authority (bid work for plumbing and heating). Other installations include the Belmont Public Library, Massachusetts Rehabilitation (bathroom facilities), Melrose-Wakefield Hospital (backflow prevention) and major installations and maintenance in many hotels in the greater Boston area. Although we’ve enjoyed much commercial success, our satisfaction has always been achieved by working with homeowners. We have always maintained our business roots by keeping at least 50% of our work as residential.

Along with practical work, Ed Mathews is a Massachusetts Certified Industrial Arts Teacher, and has taught in the public school systems as well as the Northeast Vocational School in Wakefield. Ed has four sons who are all college graduates and licensed plumbers.

In the future we plan to focus on residential work. We look forward to servicing past, present and future customers in a respectful, professional manner.
